Fourth Inning Surge Lifts Eagles Over Troy

Eagles posted six runs in the sixth innings on five hits
STATESBORO – A fourth inning offensive explosion lifted the Georgia Southern softball team (23-18, 6-10 SBC) over Troy (29-17, 9-6 SBC) 6-2 on Friday afternoon at Beautiful Eagle Field. The Eagles scored six runs in the fourth inning on five hits to secure the come from behind victory.
Troy jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after a two-run home run to left field put the Trojans up in the second frame.
After three scoreless innings, the Eagles responded in the fourth as the offense exploded scoring six runs on five hits. Dejah Mills led off the inning with a four-pitch walk and Courtney Ball used a bunt single before Kyla Maxwell recorded a sacrifice bunt to put runners into scoring position.
Emma Davis put the Eagles on the board with an RBI single to cut into the Trojan lead.
The offense continued when Katie Perkins evened the score with an RBI single to score Ball before Faith Barth loaded the bases with a base hit. Janai Conklin put the Eagles on top with a two-RBI single back up the middle to take the lead 4-2.
Jess Mazur drew a RBI five-pitch walk and Dejah Mills drew an RBI hit by pitch to plate the Eagles final two runs and extend the final margin, 6-2.
Anslie Pettit (10-7) tossed her 10th complete game of the season picking up her 10th victory in the circle. Pettit threw seven innings allowing two runs on six hits and picked up four strikeouts.
Savannah Money (1-2) picked up the loss in the circle allowing the go ahead run on one hit with a walk.
Emma Davis and Katie Perkins led the offense going 3-for-4 and 2-for-4, respectively. The Eagles combined for 10 hits in the contest with half coming in the fourth inning.

The Eagles look to take the series on Saturday morning against Troy at Beautiful Eagle Field. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. and is set to be broadcast on ESPN+.
