MACON – Georgia Southern softball (21-18, 5-10 SBC) picked up a midweek non-conference win over Mercer (19-22, 8-4 SoCon) 4-1 on Wednesday night at Sikes Field.
For the third consecutive game, Georgia Southern got on the board first to take an early 1-0 lead in the second frame.
Jess Mazur launched her seventh home run of the season, blasting a solo shot to left field.
Mercer evened things in the third, but the Eagles responded in the fifth frame to jump back out in front posting three runs on two hits making it 4-1. Mazur drew a leadoff walk before
Dejah Mills recorded her second double of the season to put runners into scoring position.
Courtney Ball posted her 11th RBI of the season on an RBI-groundout to second to plate Mazur before
Katie Perkins singled up the middle to plate two more runs.
The Bears put runners on in the final four innings of the game, but the Eagles were able to get out of the jams. The Bears left nine runners on base.
Bailey Holland (6-7) recorded her third complete game of the season tossing seven complete innings allowing one run and scattering eight hits.
Perkins recorded her 10th multi-hit performance on the season going 2-fo-4 to lead the offense along with Barth who went 2-for-4 for her 15
th multi-hit performance.
