Eagles return home against Troy this weekend

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team (21-18, 5-10 SBC) returns to action on Wednesday in midweek action against Mercer (19-21, 8-4 SoCon). First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and is set to broadcast ESPN+.

Emma Davis and Faith Barth lead the Eagle offense posting .380 and .315 averages, respectively. The duo has combined for 81 hits including 15 doubles and 30 RBI and have started all games this season. Georgia Southern took game two of a three game series at South Alabama. Alana Barnard tossed a six innings allowing two runs on four hits and picked up a strikeout. Barnard started the game strong going four hitless innings before allowing her first hit in the fifth. Bailey Holland earned the save in the circle tossing one hitless inning marking her first save of the season. The Eagle offense exploded for 12 hits on the day as four Eagles recorded multi-hit performances. Janai Conklin launched her third home run of the year and went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. In game three, the Eagles dropped a heartbreaker 2-1 as the Jaguars belted a walk off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to claim the series.

SCOUTING THE MERCER BEARS
Mercer brings a 19-21 overall record and 8-4 SoCon conference record into the midweek contest and the Bears are 11-17 in non-conference games this season. Last weekend, the Bears dropped a three-game series, two game to one, against East Tennessee State. Mercer fell in game one in extra innings before storming back to take game two 3-1 on Saturday as starting pitcher Hannah Pitts used 11 strikeouts and scattered five hits to pick up the victory. The Bears were shut out in game three only collecting one hit in the contest. Emma Dorval leads the Bears offense posting a .368 batting average including 39 hits, three doubles, and 15 RBI. She is one of five batters hitting over .300 on the season. In the circle, Grace Taylor and Hannah Pitts lead the staff with a 3.43 and 3.56 ERA, respectively. The duo has a combined record of 13-15 in 170.2 innings pitched on the season.
