Senior becomes one of only five Eagles to earn All-Conference honors three times in a career
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern senior Terren Ward has earned first team All-Sun Belt Conference women's basketball honors for a second straight year, announced today by league officials.
The Jesup, Ga., native ranks 10th in NCAA Division I in scoring, averaging 22.1 points per game, while also leading the Sun Belt in rebounding at 9.1 rebounds per game. Her 597 points this season are the second-most in a single season in Georgia Southern women's basketball history and she has scored 20+ points in 20 of her 27 games played this season. She had nine straight 20+ point games from Nov. 25 through Jan. 6, and she has a pair of 30+ point performances.
Ward was named to the Becky Hammon Midseason Mid-Major Player of the Year watchlist, was the Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week on Dec. 30 and was the Sun Belt's Player of the Week four times this season (11/14, 11/28, 12/27, 1/9). In addition to leading the Sun Belt in rebounding, she also leads the league in double-doubles with 15, is second in scoring and ranks among the Top 5 in the league in nine separate statistical categories.
A first-team All-Sun Belt selection as a junior in 2022-23 and a second-team All-Sun Belt selection as a sophomore in 2021-22, Ward is the first three-time All-Conference selection for the Eagles since Sharon Mitchell (1997-99, 2000-01) and is one of only five student-athletes overall to earn that accolade, joining Mitchell, Telly Hall (1995-98), Phylette Blake (1987-89) and Regina Days-Bryan (1985-88).
Ward and the Eagles will be in action in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament on Tuesday, facing Texas State at 12:30 p.m. ET from Penscola, Fla.
