Softball Drops Game One 4-1 Against Coastal Carolina

Eagles look to even series Friday

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team (19-12, 3-4 SBC) dropped game one 4-1 of its three game series against Coastal Carolina on Thursday night at Beautiful Eagle Field. 

The Eagles struck first in the second after Jess Mazur doubled to left field and scored on a Chanticleer error to lead 1-0. 

Coastal Carolina (19-14, 2-5 SBC) responded with four unanswered runs for the final margin, 4-1. The Chanticleers opened its scoring in the second with a pair of runs. With runners on the corners, Coastal used a run down to plate its first run before a go-ahead RBI-double scored the second making it 2-1.  

Coastal Carolina extended its lead 4-1 in the sixth with back-to-back solo shots. 

Anslie Pettit picked up the loss for the Eagle to move to 9-5 on the season. The freshman tossed 5.1 innings allowing four runs on seven hits and fanning two. 

Dejah Mills and Emma Davis recorded multi-hit performances going 2-for-3 and 2-for-4, respectively. 

Raelee Brabham secured the victory in the circle for the Chanticleers tossing six complete innings surrendering one run on seven hits and picked up nine strikeouts. 

Next Up
The Eagles look to even the series in game two on Friday night at Beautiful Eagle Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
