Eagles totaled six hits in the contest
HUNTINGTON, WV – Georgia Southern softball (17-8, 1-1 SBC) fell 6-0 on Saturday in game two of its first conference series against Marshall at Dot Hicks Field. The Eagles look to take the series in game three on Sunday at noon.
After two scoreless innings, Marshall broke the score in the third to take a 2-0 lead as that's all it would need for the victory. Marshall used a two-RBI double to plate the pair of runs after leading off the inning with back-to-back singles.
The Eagles worked the bases loaded in the fourth frame, but a strikeout ended the threat. Jess Mazur led off the inning with her second hit by pitch in as many at bats before Faith Barth and Dejah Mills drew back-to-back singles.
Marshall extended its lead in the fourth on an RBI-double and again in the fifth on a three-run homer to make it 6-0.
Delanie Thames ended the shutout in the seventh launching her second career home run to put the eagles on the board.
Bailey Holland (5-3) took the loss in the circle spinning three innings allowing two runs on five hits with one strikeout. In relief, Morgan Kendrick tossed three innings allowing four runs on four hits and added three strikeouts.
Offensively, Davis went 2-for-4 including her third double of the season and Barth went 2-for-3 with two singles. Additionally, Mills added a hit going 1-for-2 to bring the total to five Eagle hits and Thames' homer made it six. Georgia Southern left eight runners on base throughout the game.
