Eagles return for midweek action at Georgia
HUNTINGTON, WV – Georgia Southern softball dropped its opening conference series against Marshall on Sunday falling 9-1 in game three at Dot Hicks Field. The Eagles move to 1-2 in Sun Belt Conference play.
For the second straight game, Marshall got on the board first to take an early 1-0 lead. After a leadoff double Cameron Michallas recorded an RBI-double to plate the run. With two runners on, a groundout to second base would end the scoring.
The Herd extended its lead in the fourth on a two-run homer, but Janai Conklin responded in the top of the fifth with her first home run of the season launching a solo shot to cut into the deficit, 3-1.
Marshall put the game out of reach in the fifth and sixth pushing five runs across to make the final score,
Starting pitcher Alana Barnard (2-2) spun four innings allowing three runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. In relief, Anslie Pettit and Kyleigh Richardson combined for 1.2 innings.
Offensively, the Eagles struggled only posting one hit in the contest.
