Eagle Softball Takes Two More at Home

Team runs winning streak to five

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern softball team ran its winning streak to five games with a pair of wins Saturday on the second day of the GATA Challenge, being played at Eagle Field. The Eagles opened the day with a tight 3-2 win over Purdue Fort Wayne before taking a 7-2 win over Presbyterian.

Game 1: GS 3, Purdue Fort Wayne 2

The Eagles got on the board in the first inning when Jess Mazur legged out a bases-loaded infield single to plate Emma Davis. Trailing 2-1 in the third inning, Mazur's solo home run to left field tied the game up. The Eagles took the lead back in the fourth inning on Davis' infield single to plate Faith Barth.

Mazur and Barth led the way with two hits apiece while Bailey Holland (W, 3-1) pitched a two-hit gem, allowing two runs (one earned) with two strikeouts.

Game 2: GS 7, Presbyterian 2

Mazur continued her hot hitting with a two-run double to start the scoring in the first inning after PC loaded the bases in the top of the first but came up empty. The Blue Hose scored a pair of unearned runs in the second inning and that's the way the game remained until the third inning when Barth's bases-loaded single up the middle plated a pair of runs. Kinley Stewart drove in a pair of runs of her own with a single to center to make it 6-2. Southern tacked on one more run in the fifth inning on a wild pitch.

Katie Perkins led thew way with three hits while Mazur and Barth each had two. Alana Barnard (W, 2-0) allowed a pair of unearned runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Morgan Kendrick picked up the save with three innings of work.
