ORLANDO, Fla. - The Georgia Southern swimming and diving teams enjoyed a day where several personal records fell and new season bests were set while in action during the second day of the Sun Belt Conference Championships at the Rosen Aquatics Center in Orlando, Florida.
Action started in the 500 Free preliminaries where
Zuri Clavo and
Jamison Tiller punched their tickets to the A-Final with times of 5:00.98 and 5:02.71, respectively. Clavo's time was her personal best, and it was Tiller's first time competing at the event this season.
Grace Drawdy,
Montgomery Dampier, and
Madie Banks all qualified for the B-Final with times of 5:07.24, 5;08.29, and 5:13.55, respectively. All of these times were season bests.
In the 200 IM preliminaries, all five performers set season bests and all but one set a new personal best. In the first heat,
Abby Schoppa set a new season best with a time of 2:09.67,
Jenna Maloy set a new personal best with a time of 2:09.40, and
Hannah Merrill set a new personal best with a time of 2:09.91. In the second head,
Madlen Wendland set a personal best with a time of 2:06.60, and
Emma Scruggs set a personal best with a time of 2:07.39.
The 50 Free preliminaries followed the 200 IM prelims, where
Abby Wenham claimed a spot in the A-Final with a time of 23.61, a new season best. In the first heat,
Logan Belanger swam in the event for the first time this season, setting a season best of 24.18, while
Emma Sutton set a personal best of 24.38. In the second heat,
Chiara Alberti swam a 23.67 while
Carsyn Cosman swam a 24.01, good for a new personal best. Alberti, Belanger, and Cosman all qualified for the B-Final with their times.
Karlee Wells claimed a spot in the 3M Finals with a score of 278.05, finishing in fifth place in the preliminary round.
Season bests were set again in the B-Final of the 500 Free, where Dampier finished first with a time of 5:05.25, her new season best. Drawdy finished just over a second behind for a new season best of 5:06.35, and Banks finished with a time of 5:13.93. In the A-Final, both Clavo and Tiller set new personal bests with times of 4:56.65 and 5:02.05, respectively.
All five performers in the C-Final and B-Final of the 200 IM set new personal bests, some breaking their own personal bests set earlier in the day. Schoppa finished first of the Eagles in the C-Final with a time of 2:08.88, followed by Merrill's 2:09.15 with Maloy's 2:09.23 right behind her. In the B-Final, Wendland's 2:06.10 was a new personal best, as was Scruggs's 2:06.12.
In the 50 Free B-Final, Alberti set a new personal best hours after setting it, finishing first with a time of 23.50. Cosman set a new personal best as well with a time of 23.97, and Belanger set her personal best a second time with a time of 24.06. In the A-Final, Wenham finished in seventh with a time of 23.39, her season best.
In the 3M Final, Wells finished in seveth place with a final score of 269.70.
To round out the night, the quartet of Alberti, Cosman, Belanger, and Wenham placed third in the 200 Free Relay Final with a time of 1:33.64, the fastest time at the event for Georgia Southern this season.
