Box Score TAMPA - Georgia Southern men's tennis dropped a tight 4-3 decision at USF on Saturday morning at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa.
The Eagles (2-5) saw their modest two-game win streak come to a close, while USF improved to 4-3 on the year. It was the first meeting between the two schools since 2020.
Georgia Southern notched a quick 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles behind Judson Blair and Pierre Mouesca, but USF earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
The Eagles and the Bulls split the first sets of their six singles matches, with Georgia Southern taking the first sets at the top three singles spots. USF would notch the win, however, with straight set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles as well as a three-set win at No. 1 singles.
Georgia Southern's singles points came from Dimitris Paliouras at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Erik Grevelius; from Judson Blair with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Tom Pavlekovich-Smith at No. 4 singles and from Pol del Castillo with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 win over Bruno Oliveira at No. 3 singles.
"Congratulations to USF today," Georgia Southern head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin said. "We are continuing to establish our standard of competing, and will keep pushing this program forward. I believe in this team and what they bring every day."
Georgia Southern returns to action on Friday, February 16, with a 5 p.m. match at Clemson.
