Fort Myers, Fla. --- The Georgia Southern swimming & diving team placed fourth out of five teams at the Eagle Invitational, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast, this past Friday and Saturday.
Out of the team's 587.50 points, it was
Zuri Clavo who led the way for the Eagles. The junior placed top-10 in five out of the six events she swam in throughout the weekend. This included a fourth place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:59:15, fifth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:32:43, and ninth in the 100 IM with a time of 1:00:15.
Just behind Clavo was
Karlee Wells, who dominated on the diving board on the weekend. She placed third in the 1-meter dive with her score of 240.75 and won the 3-meter diving event with a top score of 270:45. Wells was just one of two Eagles to score 30 or more points for her team.
Abby Ounsworth also finished well in both the one and three meter dives, placing sixth and seventh respectively.
Ieva Evaltaite had phenomenal performances as well, placing fourth in the 100 breast at 1:04:50 and even secured a first place finish in the 200 breast with her winning time of 2:18:82
Chiara Alberti also performed well, placing top-ten in all but one of her events, which was an 11th place finish in the 100 free. Her day was highlighted with a fifth place finish in the 50 free with her time of 23:75. She was also a part of five relay teams that got top five finishes in the 200 free and 800 yard relays with an additional sixth place finish in the 400 free. The 100 breast saw
Logan Belanger place sixth in her only event of the meet with her time of 1:04:92.
Many freshman also experienced their first collegiate meet and performed well.
Scout Chapin placed in the top-15 in all four of her individual swims and included a tenth place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 57:92.
Fina Hickmon secured a top-15 finish at 1:55:94 in the 200 free, while
Sarah Luskus had two top-15 finishes with her 4:38:92 time in 400 IM for 12th and a 2:22:38 time for tenth place in the 200 breast.
Finally, senior
Jenna Maloy finished eighth in the 100 fly with her time of 57:71 and a sixth place result in the 200 fly at 2:07:56, securing her team 10 points from her showing.Â
The next meet for the Eagles is a diving only meet at the Emory Invite on November 8th and 9th, hosted by Emory University in Atlanta.Â
