Eagles Season Comes to a Close in Sun Belt Conference Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell to the Georgia State Panthers on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama, 8-5. The loss concludes the Eagles season at 27-29 with a 16-14 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.

The Panthers (30-27) jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the second inning with a three-run home run down the left field line from JoJo Jackson. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Panthers doubled the lead with an RBI-double and a two-RBI single where the Eagles were able to get the runner out as he tried to stretch the play to a double.

The 6-0 lead held until the top of the eighth inning, where the Eagles started to fight back, with Blake Evans getting the Eagles on the board with a two-RBI double, scoring Jesse Sherrill and J.C. Peacher. Jarrett Brown followed that with an RBI-groundout, scoring Evans. Corey Dowdell cut into the deficit with an RBI-single that scored Sam Blancato, and JP Tighe made it a one-run game with a RBI-single that would score Noah Ledford. The Panthers responded in the bottom half of the inning with two more runs to take a 8-5 lead. The Eagles would threaten in the top of the ninth inning with runners on second and third, but the Panthers pitching was able to hold off the threat and defeat the Eagles.
