STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell in non-conference action to the College of Charleston Cougars, 8-5, on Wednesday night at J.I. Clements Stadium.
Action started in the top of the first inning when Charleston (26-14) scored two in the first inning thanks to an two-RBI single to center field. CofC then took a 7-0 lead by scoring five in the top of the second inning, due to a fielding error and two two-run homers. Georgia Southern (20-21) got on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a
Jesse Sherrill RBI-single up the middle, which scored
Luke Hatcher to cut the deficit to 7-1.
The Cougars were able to get one back in the top of the fourth inning, but the Eagles started to mount a comeback, first with a Sherrill sac bunt to score
JD Kaiser in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Hatcher would launch his fourth homer of the year to straight-center field, hitting the batter's eye with the homer. In the bottom of the eighth inning,
JP Tighe scored Kaiser on an RBI-single, and
Jarrett Brown's RBI-double down the right field line would score Tighe, but the Eagles did not bring any more runners homer, setting the final at 8-5 in favor of the Cougars.
