JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Georgia Southern baseball team won its 12th-straight game over the Jacksonville Dolphins on Wednesday night at John Sessions Stadium. The all-time record in the series moves to 77-60 in favor of the Eagles.
Both starting pitchers were locked in a duel in the first two innings, but Jacksonville (22-12) got on the board first with two runs that were scored due to two Eagles errors in the bottom of the third inning. Georgia Southern (16-17) responded with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a brief lead, the first two runs coming from a Blake Evans two-RBI single up the middle Jarrett Jenkins and Cameron Crosby and the third run coming from a groundout by JD Kaiser that scored J.C. Peacher. The Dolphins would go back on top of the bottom of the fifth inning with two solo homers, taking a 4-3 lead.
The Eagles responded in the top of the sixth inning and tied the game up with a bases-loaded walk by Jarrett Brown, which brought Jonathan Jaime to the plate. Both sides continued to threaten for the remainder of the game, but no one could get a run across until the top of the ninth inning. Zane Faulk's RBI-single to right center field brought home Brown for the fifth and final run of the night. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Jay Thompson earned his seventh save of the season by fanning the first two Dolphins batters, then getting the third and final batter to fly out to right field, securing the win for the Eagles.
