STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team dropped a 12-7 decision to the Old Dominion Monarchs on Saturday night at J.I. Clements Stadium. Georgia Southern looks to salvage the series on Sunday to avoid the sweep.

Old Dominion (22-5, 7-1 SBC) put up seven in the first three frames to take a 7-0 lead before the Eagles (13-14, 4-4 SBC) responded in the bottom of the third inning with a lead-off home run by Jarrett Brown. ODU put up another pair in the top of the fourth inning, and the Eagles started to claw away at the lead in the bottom of the fourth. A Zane Faulk RBI-single, Jesse Sherrill sac fly, and Noah Ledford sac fly scored three runs for the Eagles and set the score at 9-4. GS added another in the bottom of the sixth with a Sam Blancato sac fly.

ODU put up two more in the top of the seventh and one more in the top of the eighth innings, while the Eagles continued to fight back. A Ledford RBI-single scored Sherrill in the bottom of the eighth inning and a JP Tighe RBI-double scored Blake Evans in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Eagles would fall to ODU, 12-7.

Georgia Southern's pitching staff combined for 18 strikeouts on the night, including Brett Zerbel's seven strikeouts on the evening. The 18 strikeouts since 2019, when GS strikeout 21 against Little Rock.

The Eagles look to fend off the sweep in the final match up with ODU on Sunday, April 2. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
