STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night at J.I. Clements Stadium, 8-6. The loss put GS at a 2-2 overall record, while GT improved to 4-0.
The action started in the bottom of the first inning, when Georgia Southern was able to race out to a 5-0 lead after several scoring plays, highlighted by a two-RBI double to left field from Zane Faulk. However, the Yellow Jackets would close the gap to 5-4 thanks to a RBI single and a three-run homer in the top of the second inning.
The Eagles would try to build some distance in the bottom of the second inning when Sam Blancato doubled down the left field line, plating Jesse Sherrill to set the score to 6-4, but a sacrifice fly by the Yellow Jackets in the top of the third inning would help shrink the gap to 6-5. In the top of the fifth inning, a three-run homer by Georgia Tech would solidify the score at 8-6, with neither team able to plate another run for the remainder of the contest.
The Eagles were able to post a combined 12 strikeouts after starter Jaylen Paden fanned three GT battters, Mitchell Gross struck out four, Benjamin Stuart sat down one, Anthony DiMola danned three and Jay Thompson turned one away.
