Georgia Southern takes the court for the first time this Fall at Wallis
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's tennis took to the courts for its first action this Fall, hosting the GS Fall Shootout at the Wallis Tennis Center.
The Eagles competed in four brackets of singles and two brackets of doubles action from Friday through Sunday. Overall, the Eagles went 13-7 in singles and 8-3 in doubles on the weekend.
"I feel like we had a really good weekend overall," Georgia Southern head women's tennis coach Sean McCaffrey said. "We had some very solid performances from a few of the women that had us take notice, and that's always promising when someone rises to the occasion in clutch moments. We also had moments where we were reminded that we must believe in ourselves.
"With tennis being such a mental game, we must continue to dig deep and trust ourselves," McCaffrey said. "Now that the future of college tennis will shift to more individual play in the fall season [NCAA's singles and doubles moving to fall championships], we will begin to put a far greater emphasis on our Fall season competition schedule and offseason training and competing. As a whole I'm very impressed with where we are right now as a team and I believe our better days are still ahead of us. Right now our aim is to continue working towards being the best we can be and finding ways to grow 1% each day."
Georgia Southern will be next in action at the ITA Regionals on October 19-22, hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville.
