STATESBORO – Six consecutive home games, a season-opening road trip to California and a three-game multi-team event in Houston highlight the Georgia Southern men's basketball schedule, announced today by head coach
Brian Burg.
In total, the Eagles will host 16 contests in Hanner Fieldhouse, the most since the 1991-92 season, when Georgia Southern played 18 games in the facility after hosting and winning the TAAC Tournament to earn the Eagles' last NCAA Tournament bid. That season was also the last time Georgia Southern hosted six consecutive home games.
"I've been saying it for years – Hanner Fieldhouse is the toughest place to play in the Sun Belt Conference," said Burg. "We purposefully scheduled 17 games away from home last season in order to have the bulk of our non-conference schedule in Hanner Fieldhouse this season, so we're looking forward to hosting 16 games in front of Eagle Nation."
Georgia Southern opens the season with two contests in California as the Eagles travel to San Jose State (Nov. 7) and Santa Clara (Nov. 10). The home opener will be Nov. 12 against Trinity Baptist before the Eagles travel to Burg's hometown of Houston, Texas, to play road contests at Rice (Nov. 18) and at Houston Baptist (Nov. 19) and a neutral-site tilt versus Western Michigan (Nov. 20).
GS opens the run of six consecutive home games Nov. 26 against Oglethorpe, and the stretch includes contests against FGCU (Nov. 30), Piedmont (Dec. 7), Wofford (Dec. 10), Morehead State (Dec. 14) and Campbell (Dec. 17). Georgia Southern caps the non-conference slate at Ball State (Dec. 21) and opens Sun Belt Conference play at home Dec. 29 against South Alabama.
