STATESBORO - Austin Thompson has been named a finalist for the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award, announced today by both organizations.
Thompson was a big reason for the Eagles' defensive success this season, helping lead a GS team that finished eighth-nationally in fielding percentage at .982. Thompson had a personal fielding percentage on .980 with 70 putouts of his own and 249 catches, and led the Eagles in put-out assists with 174 on the season. His 174 assists was good for second in the Sun Belt. Thompson was involved in 32 of the 45 total double plays that the Eagles turned this season.
The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove is awarded to the top defensive players at each position in all levels of collegiate and high school baseball. Winners of the Gold Glove Award will be announced on Wednesday, June 22, via Rawlings' Twitter account.
