STATESBORO - The over 400 student-athletes who make up the Georgia Southern Athletics Department earned a 3.08 GPA for the 2021-2022 academic year, as announced Monday by director of athletics Jared Benko. This mark ties the mark set in 2019-20.

For the academic year, women's soccer posted the highest team GPA for the department with a 3.65 and men's tennis had the highest team GPA on the men's side with a 3.43.

On the team level, the rifle team posted the highest GPA of all teams for the spring 2022 semester with a 3.71. The men's tennis team posted the highest GPA of all men's programs with 3.65 for the spring semester.

Overall, 268 student-athletes earned a place on the honor roll (3.0 or higher). Of that group, 90 made the Dean's List (3.50-3.99) and 87 made the President's List for earning a perfect 4.0 semester GPA.

"I am very proud of our student-athletes' excellent performance in the classroom, not only for this spring semester, but for the 2021-22 academic year," Benko said. "Our student-athletes' hard work toward reaching their full potential academically is also consistent on their fields of play as we continue to have record success. I also want to recognize Reggie Simpkins and his Student-Athlete Services staff for their leadership and dedication toward positioning our student-athletes for success."

Additionally, 13 of the 16 programs earned a 3.0 or higher for the spring semester with several setting program records.

• Men's Golf: 3.27 (18th consecutive semester with a 3.0 or higher)
• Men's Soccer: 3.44 (5th consecutive semester with a 3.0 or higher)
• Men's Tennis: 3.65 (21st consecutive semester with a 3.0 or higher)
• Rifle: 3.71 (6th consecutive semester with a 3.0 or higher)
• Softball: 3.57 (24th consecutive semester with a 3.0 or higher)
• Volleyball: 3.42 (26th consecutive semester with a 3.0 or higher)
• Women's Golf: 3.27
• Women's Soccer: 3.62 (9th consecutive semester with a 3.0 or higher)
• Women's Swimming: 3.70 (30th consecutive semester with a 3.0 or higher)
• Women's Track and Field: 3.28
• Women's Tennis: 3.44 (35th consecutive semester with a 3.0 or higher)
