Eagles Victorious in Offensive Showcase, 13-11

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – A combined 12 runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings helped the Georgia Southern baseball squad clinch the series against the 10th-ranked Texas State Bobcats on Saturday afternoon with a 13-11 victory Saturday afternoon. The Eagles will go for the sweep of the Bobcats on Sunday.

Texas State got the scoring started early with a two-run homer in the first frame. The Eagles would make a dent in the score in the top of the fourth inning when Noah Ledford brought Jason Swan home on a ground out to the shortstop. However, the Bobcats would score four more in the bottom of the fourth inning, three on a home run and the fourth one on a solo homer.

The top of the fifth inning saw the Eagles make some noise, starting with a two-run home run from Sam Blancato to cut the lead to 6-4. Kyler Hultgren would score off a Swan single, Swan would score on a Christian Avant double, and Avant would get home off a Noah Searcy single to give the Eagles a 7-6 lead. The Eagles would add one more in the top of the sixth when a Swan sacrifice fly brought home Hultgren.

The Bobcats would lead 10-8 after the bottom of the sixth saw them score four more runs, including two home runs. However, in the top of the seventh, a Blancato walk with the bases loaded would plate Ledford, and a swing by Hultgren would see his first career grand slam, giving the Eagles a 13-10 lead. The Bobcats would add one more run in the bottom of the seventh.

Ga'von Wray navigated the Eagles through the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings to collect his first save of the season, and to give the Eagles the series win over the No. 10 Bobcats.
