Janai Conklin goes deep for a third straight game for the Eagles
MOBILE - South Alabama softball took game one of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series from visiting Georgia Southern by am 8-1 score on Friday evening in Mobile.
The Jaguars move to 21-17 overall and 13-4 in the Sun Belt with the win, while the Eagles fall to 11-30 overall and 4-15 in the league with the loss. The two teams will continue their series on Saturday with a 4 p.m. ET first pitch.
Georgia Southern got on the board first as Janai Conklin launched a two-out solo home run in the top of the first, her sixth home run of the season and the third straight game in which she has gone deep.
South Alabama answered quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first, then added a run in the bottom of the second.
Victoria Ortiz' three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth punctuated a four-run frame to put the game away for the Jaguars.
Olivia Lackie (12-6) notched the win for South Alabama, hurling seven innings of five-hit, one-run ball, striking out 13. Kastin Belogorska (3-12) took the loss for the Eagles in the circle, giving up eight hits and eight runs - four earned - in five innings of work, walking one.
