STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern baseball team overcame a six-run deficit and swept Georgia State with a 10-8 final score on Saturday at J.I. Clements Stadium.
Georgia State (23-13, 10-5 SBC) would plate three runners in the top of the first and second innings each, getting up 6-0 against Georgia Southern (24-11, 11-4 SBC). The Eagles would get two back in the bottom of the third inning, the first run off a passed ball, and the second one off a
Noah Ledford RBI-single to score
Christian Avant.
The Panthers would score one more in the top of the fourth inning, but the Eagles would continue to claw back with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, where
Jarrett Brown scored on a fielder's choice, and a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, where a Brown RBI-triple scored
Noah Searcy.
Georgia State would score one more in the top of the seventh inning, but the Eagles would respond in a big way in the bottom of the seventh inning with a Ledford home run to right center, his sixth of the season.
Austin Thompson hit a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Searcy. A
Sam Blancato RBI-single scored Brown and a
Jesse Sherrill bunt would plate Blancato for the tying run, bringing the score to 8-8.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Eagles saw their first lead of the night after Thompson grounded out to second, bringing Avant home for the 9-8 lead. A wild pitch would bring home pinch runner
Blake Evans to cushion the lead, and ultimately give the Eagles the 10-8 sweep of the Panthers.

- The Eagles have won four of their five Sun Belt Conference series this season.
- This is the first time since 2002 there has been a sweep in the Georgia Southern vs. Georgia State series. The last sweep was in 2002, when the Eagles won all four games against the Panthers.

- Ben Johnson picked up his fourth win of the season, coming in relief for the eighth and ninth innings. He pitched for two innings, only facing six batters and not allowing a hit with one strikeout.

The Eagles will play four games on the road next week, starting with a midweek matchup with the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee, Florida, on Wednesday, April 20. Following that game, the Eagles will take on South Alabama in a three-game conference series, starting on Friday, April 22.
