STATESBORO - The 20th-ranked Georgia baseball team downed Georgia Southern 5-1 Wednesday night at J.I. Clements Stadium to even up the season series at 1-1. The Eagles won convincingly Tuesday night in North Augusta, South Carolina, 13-5, and the two teams will wrap up the series on March 29 in Athens.
The Bulldogs plated a run in the first inning, but the Eagles clawed right back into it when
Jason Swan scored on a passed ball in the bottom of frame. That would be the only run for the Eagles and the Bulldogs plated four runs in the third inning to pull away.
Noah Ledford led the way with a pair of double while Swan and
Kyler Hultgren both had a hit for the Eagles. Six pitchers from the Georgia Southern bullpen combined to give up just five hits over the final seven innings. Redshirt freshman
Anthony DiMola tossed 3 2/3 innings with just a hit against a career-high six strikeouts to lead the effort.
The Eagles will be back at home this weekend, hosting William & Mary in a three-game, non-conference set at Clements Stadium starting Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
