STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's tennis excelled in its Fall Shootout over the weekend at the Wallis Tennis Center, going 27-12 in combined singles and doubles action over the three days of competition.
The tournament featured six different teams as well as the Eagles, and Georgia Southern played individual singles and doubles matches against Emory, Troy, Jacksonville State, Mercer and Georgia State throughout the weekend. The Eagles went 12-2 in Friday's action (8-2 singles, 4-0 doubles), 9-4 on Saturday (6-3 singles, 3-1 doubles) and concluded Sunday by going 6-6 (4-4 singles, 4-4 doubles.)
"We had a very solid weekend on the court overall," Georgia Southern Head Women's Tennis Coach Sean McCaffrey said. "I was extremely pleased with the level of competitiveness we showed collectively throughout the event. Our doubles looked really good for this early in the season, and I truly believe we had a few of our ladies shine with solid wins, and gritty performances in some difficult loses.
"At this point in the year, we are mostly focused on having a process and growth mindset driven mentality," McCaffrey said. "We always strive to improve 1% each day, but right now we look deep into what attributes we need to work on the most and then begin to conscientiously spend time working our way to improve in these things. Our ladies have a great mindset, and are really ambitious in the way they hope to improve and develop their games. I'm excited to see how the next two fall events we have scheduled unfold. This team has their best tennis ahead of them for sure."
Georgia Southern will be next in action on October 13-16, traveling to the ITA Regionals in Atlanta, Ga., on the campus of Georgia Tech.
