• Georgia Southern plays its first home contest since Sept. 17, as the Eagles play host to in-state rival Georgia State this weekend. Friday's match starts at 6 p.m., Saturday's begins at 1 p.m. and both contests will air on ESPN+.

• Georgia Southern capped what became a six-match road swing with a pair of 3-0 victories at Marshall last weekend. The Eagles were scheduled to host Old Dominion Sept. 30-Oct. 1, but those contests were canceled due to travel concerns caused by Hurricane Ian.

• Georgia State is coming off a pair of 3-1 losses at James Madison and has lost its last five.

• Georgia State leads the all-time series, which began in 1985, 26-14, and the Eagles have won four of the last five. GS is 9-9 all-time against the Panthers in Hanner Fieldhouse.

• GS is 5-1 at home this season and has won the last five. Georgia State is 1-6 on the road.

• Georgia State first-year coach Terry Hutchinson was an assistant coach for Georgia Southern in 2016. He spent five years as an assistant coach at Towson, where he helped mentor current Eagles outside Emily Jarome, who transferred to Georgia Southern last summer.

• Georgia Southern ranks sixth in the country in opponents' hitting percentage (.149) and 25th in aces (1.85), and the Eagles rank second in the Sun Belt in both categories. GS ranks fourth in the league in digs (14.87/set).

• Ashlyn Lovett ranks seventh in the nation and leads the Sun Belt in aces (0.63/set). The sophomore is second in the Sun Belt in digs (4.47/set), while Emily Jarome is fifth in the Sun Belt in kills (3.83/set).

• Bumford is 15 blocks shy of 300 for her career, and Lovett notched her 500th career dig at the Tussle in the Triad Sept. 2.

• The Eagles' roster has been bolstered by three transfers who are making an impact this season. Jarome was a three-time All-CAA selection at Towson and led the Tigers to three CAA Tournament Championships and subsequent NCAA Tournament appearances. Jarome's Eagle debut was her 100th career match, and she has 1,259 career kills, 892 digs, 197 blocks and 94 aces. Grace Underwood, Jarome's club teammate on East Coast Power,  transferred from Delaware and has 275 career kills and 184 blocks. Callaway Cason transferred from Ole Miss and ranks fifth in the Sun Belt in assists (9.73/set). Bumford is also a transfer, having come to Georgia Southern from UNCW prior to the 2019 season.

• Georgia Southern continues a four-match homestand by playing host to James Madison in Hanner Fieldhouse next weekend. Friday's contest is slated for a 6 p.m. start, and first serve for Saturday is set for noon. Both contests will air on ESPN+.
