STATESBORO - Georgia Southern freshman middle blocker
Alex Myers has been named the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Myers earns her first career weekly honor for the Eagles as she was pivotal in Georgia Southern's pair of wins over App State last week. On Thursday, in the Eagles' come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Mountaineers, she hit .308 with 10 kills and seven blocks - and with the Mountaineers leading 14-11 in the fifth set, had a block to earn a side out, then served four straight points as the Eagles completed the 16-14 fifth-set win to earn the victory. The Overland Park, Kansas, native then hit .444 with another 10 kills and seven blocks in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Mountaineers
For the week, Myers hit .364 with 27 kills and she is hitting .418 in Sun Belt action this season, while collecting double digit kills her last three matches.
Myers is the fourth different Eagle to earn Sun Belt weekly honors this season, joining setter
Kirsten Barrett (5x),
Maddie Cugino and
Lydia Seymour.
The Eagles return to action on Friday, October 24, visiting James Madison for a 6 p.m. contest against the Dukes.
