
Two Eagles Selected on Day Two of the MLB First-Year Player Draft

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern baseball's Nick Jones and Jordan Jackson both heard their names called during the second day of the 2021 MLB First-Year Player Draft on Monday. Jones was selected in the 8th round, pick number 231 by the Los Angeles Angels, while Jackson was selected in the 10th round, pick number 294 by the Seattle Mariners.
The 2021 MLB Draft marks the fifth time in the last eight drafts that the Eagles have had multiple players selected. Jones becomes the first left-handed pitcher to be drafted since Connor Simmons in 2017 and the highest southpaw since Sam Howard in the third round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
Jones finished the 2021 season tying the Georgia Southern school record for saves with 17. He tallied 67 strikeouts in his 42 and 2/3 innings of work. The lefty posted a 1-0 record and had the lowest ERA on the team with a 1.48, while setting the career ERA record with a 2.28. The 6-6 left hander was named to the Dick Howser Trophy Semifinal list and was a 2021 Stopper of the Year Finalist.
Jackson finished the 2021 season with a 4-6 record, striking out 74 batters on the year, highlighted by a career-high 11 against Arkansas State. In the Sun Belt Conference Semifinals, Jackson worked seven innings of two hit baseball, allowing one run and striking out eight Ragin' Cajuns. The 6-6 righty was tied for the team lead in strikeouts with 74 during the 2021 season.
