Texas State Sweeps Sun Belt Doubleheader From Eagle Softball Saturday

Bobcats win 7-0 and 3-0 in San Marcos; series wraps up with a Noon game on Sunday

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State pitched a double shutout to take two from Georgia Southern softball on Saturday afternoon at the Bobcat Softball Stadium in San Marcos, Texas. The Bobcats won game one, 7-0, and took the second game, 3-0.

With the wins, the Bobcats improve to 29-9 overall and 11-5 in the Sun Belt, while the Eagles fall to 11-24 overall and 3-13 in the Sun Belt. The two teams will wrap up their Sun Belt series with a single game at Noon on Sunday.

GAME ONE: Texas State 7, Georgia Southern 0

The Bobcats took advantage of five Georgia Southern errors, while Jessica Mullins and Tori McCann combined on a two-hitter in the circle to give Texas State the game-one win.

Texas State plated two runs in the first inning after an error, then added a run in the second on a double steal. Another error in the third made the lead 4-0.

The Bobcats capped the scoring with three runs in the fifth on a two-RBI single by Cat Crenek and an RBI single by Baylee Lemons.

Mullins (15-6) limited the Eagles to two hits in 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball, walking two and striking out five to notch the win. Aaliyah Garcia (4-5) gave up a hit and three walks in two innings of work, giving up three unearned runs while striking out two to take the loss.

Mekhia Freeman had a single in the fourth inning and Allyssah Mullis had a single in the seventh to account for the Eagles' two hits.

GAME TWO: Texas State 3, Georgia Southern 0

The Bobcats completed the sweep by getting a solo home run from Sara Vanderford in the second, then plating two runs in the fourth for the 3-0 win.

Dalilah Barrera (2-0) and Meagan King combined on the one-hit shutout in the circle for the Bobcats. Barrera hurled four innings of one-hit shutout ball, striking out four, while King hurled three hitless innings, striking out three for her third save of the season.

Allyssah Mullis had the Eagles' lone hit, coming in the second inning.

Rylee Waldrep (3-6) took the loss in the complete-game effort for the Eagles, giving up five hits and three runs in six innings of work, walking one.
