To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, GS Athletics caught up with former Men's Tennis player, Eddie Landin
1. How did your time at Georgia Southern pave the way for your success?
"I can't thank GS enough for the incredible assistance they provide to their students. I remember having one-on-one meeting with mentors, resume boot camps, personalized academic tutoring and solid support in our athletic department to succeed in our sports, classrooms and life. Something I strongly believe, and that I carry with me everywhere I go, are the values by which the athletic department are founded.
2. How did being a student-athlete prepare you for the position that you are in today?
Being a student-athlete at Georgia Southern taught me how to be a team player, how to manage my time more efficiently, how to lead by example and to stay disciplined in my day-to-day duties.
3. What do you enjoy most about your current career?
What I enjoy the most about my career is the endless opportunities within the hospitality industry. Since graduating from GS, I've had the privilege to work at some of the most iconic and luxury brands in the world, such as St. Regis, The Ritz-Carlton and Waldorf Astoria. Besides of all the places you can work-travel, you also meet amazing people along the way, both guests and colleagues.
4. While playing on the Men's Tennis team here at Georgia Southern, how did you and your teammates come together being from many different cultures?
While being from so many different parts around the world, we all had one thing in common. We were all away from home, playing the sport we love. We became a family, always looking after each other and always pushing ourselves to be better.
5. Why do you feel it is important for students or the Georgia Southern community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month? How can they do that?
I believe it is important to celebrate Hispanic heritage as there is a lot Hispanic influence in America. It is good to recognize and remember the Hispanic roots, culture and traditions. They can all do that by hosting events with traditional food, games, music, etc.
6. How do you feel your culture has impacted your life?
Now being back in the US working in the hospitality industry, I can see how my culture has taught me a very genuine sense of hospitality that I demonstrate in my day to day operations.
