BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Georgia Southern track and field team scored an additional 15 points in day two of the Indoor Sun Belt Conference Championships Tuesday to place 10
th for a second straight year at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Scovia Ayikoru started the day for the Eagles with a seventh-place effort in the 400m finals with a time of 56.02. Later, the Kampala, Uganda, native added another three team points in the 200m finals with a time of 24.77 for a total of five points.
Also adding five team points was
Aris Hubbard with a fourth place showing in the 200m finals. The sophomore shattered her personal-best, running a 24.58 and moving into fourth all-time on the Georgia Southern indoor record book.
Despite slipping out of the blocks,
Zykeria Williams pulled out fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles finals with a time of 8.75 to add four team points.
The final team point was added by
Merabu Nagwandala in the 3000m run where she clinched eighth with a time of 10:04.03.
What head coach Kelly Carter said:
"We had a great meet. The athletes competed well as they brought their indoor season to a close. It was a good start on day one with Merabu in the 5000m and competing well in the DMR. It was great to see Scovia and Zykeria making it back to the finals. Ellunde also missed the finals by one spot. I can truly say I'm proud of the effort that everyone put in and the PRs and records we achieved. I can't wait for the outdoor season."
