Josh Moffet Named Interim Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Georgia Southern

Eagles begin practice for 2019 season Tuesday

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein announced Monday the naming of Josh Moffet as interim head coach of the women's soccer team for the Eagles.

"After conducting a national search, as well as working alongside Josh Moffet for several weeks, we have determined that it is in our best interest to name him as our new head women's soccer coach in the interim role," Kleinlein said. "After being able to observe what Josh has done since he arrived on campus as well as sit down with him and have him share what his vision is for Georgia Southern women's soccer, we're excited for this new chapter and are fully behind Josh and this program. I want to thank Larry Mays for heading up the search committee and for the work they put into this process under less than ideal timing."

Moffet was hired as the assistant coach for the team in May, coming to Statesboro from Oak City United based out of Raleigh, North Carolina, where he served as head coach. He also served as the assistant coach and head of recruitment for men's and women's soccer at Shaw University since 2017 while pursuing his Master's degree.

"Firstly, I want to thank TK and Coach Mays for giving me this opportunity," Moffet said. "It is a huge honor and a privilege to be trusted with the leadership to take the soccer program forward. I am fully invested and committed to the vision of the athletic department, and I am looking forward to building a culture within the program that will enhance the Eagle Brand. I also want to say a huge thank you to the outstanding support staff we have here, who have helped me settle in very quickly. Hail Southern!"

In 2016, Moffet became the assistant coach for the boys' varsity team at Habersham Central High School in Clarkesville, Georgia. During that time, he also served as head coach for the U12 Academy and U19 Classic 2 programs at Rapids FC. He then moved to Emmanuel College where he was an assistant coach for the men's team during the fall of 2016. He helped lead the team to a NCCAA Regional Championship and to the NCCAA Finals during the 2016 season.

Moffet moved to Cleveland, Georgia, to attend Truett McConnell University in 2011 after playing soccer professionally in the second division for Morecambe Football Club in England. Moffet attended Lancaster and Morecambe College in Lancaster, England.

Georgia Southern begins practice on Tuesday to prepare for the 2019 season. The first home event will be a scrimmage on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 11 a.m. against Jacksonville University.
