Eagle Baseball Falls to Texas State on Saturday, 8-2

Bobcats hand junior Tyler Owens his first Division I loss

STATESBORO - After scoring 12 unanswered runs on Friday night in the series opener, the Georgia Southern offense was shackled by Texas State on Saturday, dropping an 8-2 result to even the weekend series. The Eagles were out-hit 15-6 on Saturday and were put in a hole thanks to a seven run third inning for Texas State. The Eagles and Bobcats close the weekend series on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.

SCORING INNINGS
TOP 3rd | TXST 7 - GS 0 | Texas State blew the game open with a seven run third inning. A three-run home run, followed by a solo home run on consecutive pitches got things started. A pair of doubles scored more runs and hung the crooked number for Texas State.
BOT 4th | TXST 7 - GS 1 | The Eagles got a run back in the fourth inning. Tyler Martin ignited the inning with a leadoff double off a full count. A single up the middle and a fielder's choice sent the run in to get the Eagles off the mark.
TOP 6th | TXST 8 - GS 1 | The Bobcats added another run off three hits in the sixth, cashing in a leadoff double for a run with a single up the middle.
BOT 6th | TXST 8 - GS 2 | Back-to-back singles in the sixth put ducks on the pond for the Eagles, and an RBI ground out from Christian Avant scored one, but Texas State was able to get out of the inning and hold the Eagles to a single run, keeping the lead at six.

NOTES

- Austin Thompson had two of the Eagles' six hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
- The loss drops the Eagles to 8-6 in Sun Belt play, in a tie with Coastal Carolina for first place in the East Division.
