STORYLINES
- Georgia Southern makes its only trip to the Pelican State this weekend for a three game series with ULM. The Eagles visit Monroe for the first time since 2016.
- Georgia Southern posted one of its most complete wins on March 26th, taking a 7-3 win over Mercer. The Eagles got a quality start from
Tyler Owens when he allowed just three runs over seven innings. At the plate, the Eagles got hits from all nine starters including three home runs. Defensively the Eagles did not commit an error.
- Georgia Southern leads the all-time series with ULM 8-4and has taken two of three in all three weekend series between the teams. In 2015 and 2016 the series was altered due to rain with a Friday doubleheader and a Sunday series finale.
- In this week's midweek win at Mercer, the Eagles did a thing. All nine Georgia Southern batters got a hit. It was just the second time this season that the Eagles had gotten hits from everyone, and coincidentally, the other game was the home win over Mercer.
- Junior
Seth Shuman had a dominant outing on Friday night against Little Rock, striking out a career-high 13 batters. His big day set the table for the Eagles to fan 21 batters, one off a school record set back in 1975. Shuman went seven innings and scattered two runs off five hits with two walks. Seth was named to Collegiate Baseball News' National Players of the Week list on March 25th.
- Georgia Southern's trip to the Lone Star State was beneficial for junior
Mason McWhorter who was phenomenal in the three game series. He hit .545 with a 1.455 slugging percentage. He opened the weekend on the bench, coming on as a pinch hitter and blasting a two-run home run. He got the start on Saturday, going 2-for-4 as the Eagles evened the series. On Sunday, Mason had a 3-for-5 game with three runs scored, three RBIs and a pair of home runs. He hit home runs in back-to-back leadoff chances in the 7th and 8th innings of the 15-7 win.
- Among the many tools in his kit,
Steven Curry has shown a knack for wearing pitches. In his 136 career games with the Eagles, Steven has been hit 53 times to rank third in school history, only five behind J.R. Revere's career total. In 2019, Curry has been hit 11 times with seven coming in the weekend finale.
UP NEXT
The Eagles return from this weekend's series at ULM for a pair of games in the Coastal Empire. The Eagles face Presbyterian College on Tuesday night in Statesboro before hosting College of Charleston in Savannah's Grayson Stadium. First pitch for both games is 6 p.m.
