MACON, GA. - Georgia Southern Baseball took its second win of the season over Mercer, 7-3 on Tuesday night in Macon. The Eagles got 13 hits including base knocks from all nine starters.
Tyler Owens delivered his third quality start in his sixth chance to improve to 3-0 on the year. Georgia Southern will travel to ULM this weekend for a three game series in Northeast Louisiana.
SCORING INNINGS
BOT 1st | GS 0 - MER 2 | Mercer's Kel Johnson hit his seventh career home run against the Eagles with a two run first inning home run to left that gave the home side an early lead.
TOP 2nd | GS 1 - MER 2 | A leadoff walk to
Noah Ledford came back to bite the Bears in the second when back to back singles and a ground ball to short plated the freshman and cut the lead to one.
TOP 3rd | GS 2 - MER 2 | Tyler Martin opened the third with a double to the gap in right and scored on a ground ball from
Noah Searcy to tie the game at 2-2.
TOP 6th | GS 5 - MER 2 | The Eagles blew the game open in the sixth with a three run frame, sparked by
Matt Anderson's third career home run, a solo bomb over the 350 sign in right. Later in the inning after two hits and a walk, Searcy plated a pair with a single through the right side, making it a 5-2 advantage.
BOT 7th | GS 5 - MER 3 | Down a three-spot in the seventh, Mercer was content to play small ball after back-to-back hits to start the inning. The Bears were justly rewarded with a single run as the home team cut the lead to 5-3.
TOP 8th | GS 6 - MER 3 | Nolan Tressler got his second career home run with a shot to right that pushed the lead to 6-2. The leadoff home run was of the solo variety, it extended his team-best hit streak to 11 games.
TOP 9th | GS 7 - MER 3 | Ledford capped a 2-for-3 day with a solo home run in the ninth. It was his fifth home run of the season, the most of any Eagle.

Tyler Owens scattered seven hits and three runs over seven innings of work to collect his third win of the season. The Statesboro native earned his third quality start and went seven innings for the third time this season.

Steven Curry had a 1-for-4 game, but was hit for the 53rd time as an Eagle, moving him into third place on the career HBP list, tied with Griffin Benedict and just five away from J.R. Revere's school record.

Nick Jones made his fifth appearance of the season, working an inning and striking out a pair.

Tyler Martin had a 2-for-3 game with two doubles and a walk with two runs scored.

Noah Searcy drove in a career-high three runs for the good guys, going 1-for-5 at the dish.
