STATESBORO - Georgia Southern got a career-high 11 strikeouts from 
Seth Shuman on Friday night, but it wasn't enough for the Eagles, who dropped the opener to No. 9 Georgia, 3-1. Shuman worked seven innings of five hit ball, but fell to 0-3 on the season. The Eagles and Bulldogs will close the series with a day-night doubleheader on Saturday. Game one starts at 1 p.m., while game two starts at 7:30 p.m.
SCORING INNINGS
Top 3rd | UGA 2 - GS 0 | Georgia got a pair of runners aboard in the third with a single and a double to open the third. A ground ball to short and a sacrifice fly drove in the runs to give the visitors an early 2-0 lead.
Bot 4th | UGA 2 - GS 1 | The Eagles got a run back in the fourth, cashing in a two out double from 
Matt Anderson with a 
Steven Curry single up the middle to make it a 2-1 game.
Top 9th | UGA 3 - GS 1 | A leadoff error came back to bite the Eagles in the ninth when Georgia tacked on an insurance run. A second error in the inning with two outs allowed a pinch hitter to reach and the run to cross before 
Mason McWhorter threw the runner out at second after the run scored.

- The Eagles had plenty of chances against the No. 9 Bulldogs, stranding nine runners on base, with six in scoring position.

Due to inclement weather expected on Sunday, Georgia Southern will play a Saturday doubleheader for the second-straight weekend.
