STATESBORO - Georgia Southern Baseball Head Coach
Rodney Hennon has announced the additions of Ben Paulsen and Cody Wofford to the Eagle coaching staff for the 2019 season. Paulsen will serve as the team's Volunteer Assistant Coach and comes to Statesboro after playing parts of three seasons in the Major Leagues with the Colorado Rockies. Wofford joins the program as the Director of Baseball Operations after a stop at South Alabama.
"I am very excited about the additions of Ben Paulsen and Cody Wofford to our staff," said Head Coach
Rodney Hennon. "These are two quality individuals, and outstanding young baseball guys that will bring additional energy and enthusiasm into our program. Ben and Cody bring great baseball backgrounds with them to Georgia Southern, and I believe they are a great fit with our current staff. I have no doubt that they will be tremendous assets to our players and program as we seek to win Sun Belt Championships, return to the NCAA Tournament, and ultimately, get to Omaha."
Ben Paulsen joins the Georgia Southern program after a one year stop at Clemson where he finished his degree while serving as Student Assistant Coach under Monte Lee. The Tigers finished the year with a 47-16 overall record and hosted a regional.
Paulsen, son of current Winthrop head coach Tom Riginos, was a career .318 hitter with 45 doubles, five triples, 31 homers, 130 RBIs and four steals in 182 games (170 starts) over three seasons (2007-09) at Clemson.
The first baseman, who was drafted in the third round by the Colorado Rockies in 2009, played three years (2014-16) in the majors with the Rockies, hitting .271 with 16 homers and 70 RBIs in 186 games.
Paulsen graduated from Clemson in 2018 with his degree in management. He is engaged to Kendall Hill, and the pair now reside in Statesboro.
Cody Wofford comes to Statesboro following two seasons in the Sun Belt as a student assistant coach at South Alabama. With the Jaguars, Wofford threw batting practice and coached first base for the Jaguars, helping them to a Sun Belt Tournament Championship in 2017.
As a player, Wofford started for two seasons at Western Kentucky. Playing shortstop, Cody hit nine home runs in two seasons and was part of the Hilltopper team that defeated No. 4 Vanderbilt in 2014.
Cody graduated from Western Kentucky in 2016, earning his degree in interdisciplinary studies. He is a native of McDonough, Georgia.
The 2018 Eagles closed the season at 30-26, earning the No. 5 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament and placing in a tie for third place in the East Division. The upcoming 2019 roster features 30 returners from 2018 as the program celebrates Head Coach
Rodney Hennon's 20th season at the helm.
