Players Returning
Coastal Carolina goes into its second season in the Sun Belt and is now bowl eligible. The Chanticleers lost 16 seniors, one being leading running back and captain Osharmar Abercrombie. Last season he averaged 5.68 yards per rush, ranking his career sixth on the CCU all-time list. Cornerback Anthony Chesley was also named a captain for the 2017 season, and will be returning for his last season. The Chants also get their coach back as Joe Moglia sat out last year due to health reasons.

Series History
Coastal Carolina was able to gain its first victory in the series last season against Eagles, winning 28-17 on its home field. Georgia Southern still currently leads the series against the Chanticleers 3-1, facing them in 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2017.
