Cobb Honored by Sun Belt Conference

Senior earns weekly nod for special teams play

STATESBORO - Senior Dalen Cobb has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week by the Sun Belt Conferece after kick-starting a 41-point effort in the Eagles' 41-34 win over Jax State Saturday night.

Offensive Player of the Week - Colton Joseph, Old Dominion
Quarterback Colton Joseph led Old Dominion to a 45-26 dismantling over Virginia Tech Saturday night in Blacksburg. It was ODU's first ever win in Blacksburg in four attempts and the first time ODU ever led in Lane Stadium. ODU jumped out to a 31-0 lead before the Hokies put puts on the board. Joseph led the Monarch offense on four-straight touchdown drives to finish the first half and a field goal drive to begin the third quarter. He scored the first points of the day on a six-yard TD run for a 7-0 ODU lead. Joseph completed 16-of-22 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 63 yards and the touchdown. He accumulated 339 total yards.
Defensive Player of the Week - Ian Foster, Southern Miss
Ian Foster recorded a career-high 12 tackles (five solos) as the Golden Eagles defeated App State 38-22 in the team's Sun Belt Conference opener. Foster broke open a tight game early in the second quarter as he snatched a pass that bounced out of a Mountaineers receiver's hands as he fell to the ground and Foster grabbed it for a 99-yard interception for a touchdown. The return tied for the third-longest INT return in school history - trailing only Kendrick Presley (2011 vs. Memphis) and Curtis Mikell (2016 at UTEP) - which were both brought back 100 yards. He added three pass breakups, one on a 3rd and 2 play late in the first half to quell a Mountaineer drive in which he almost collected his second interception, and one on 4th and 9 late midway through the fourth quarter to end another App State possession.
Special Teams Player of the Week - Dalen Cobb, Georgia Southern
Dalen Cobb had 210 all-purpose yards, including 129 yards on kickoff returns, as Georgia Southern beat Jax State 41-34 in non-conference action. With the game tied at 7-7, Cobb broke off a 95-yard kickoff return for a score to give the Eagles the lead. The return was tied for the fifth-longest in program and the longest return in Paulson Stadium history by an Eagle. Cobb also added six catches for 70 yards on offense and had a 12-yard rush. He became the first Eagle since 2021 (Logan Wright vs. Arkansas State) to have 200 or more all-purpose yards in a game.
