
Sam Howard Called Up By Colorado

Former GS pitcher gets his shot in the big leagues
DENVER - Sam Howard is going to the show. The former Georgia Southern left-handed pitcher has been called up by the Colorado Rockies from Triple-A Albuquerque and will make his MLB debut if he takes the mound Sunday against Arizona.
"Sam continues to improve and develop each year and Eagle Nation is very proud of him," said GS head coach Rodney Hennon. "We are excited to see him get an opportunity at the Major League level."
Howard was 3-4 with a 4.68 ERA in nine starts with the Isotopes this season, including 33 strikeouts. In his minor league career, he has posted a 3.68 ERA in 99 games, 97 of which were starts. He was recently ranked No. 16 on MLB Pipeline's list of the Rockies Top 20 Prospects.
The Cartersville, Georgia, native was selected by the Rockies in the third round of the 2014 draft. He won 10 games in two years with the Eagles, striking out 150 in 144.2 innings pitched.
