The Eagles will have two weeks off before returning to action in the ITA Southeast Regional

STATESBORO, Ga.  – Over the weekend the Georgia Southern men's tennis team traveled to Macon, Georgia, to compete in the Mercer Gridiron Classic. Four Eagles competed in the event which included Stefano Di Aloy, Santiago Suarez, Pascal Wagemaker, and Martijn Kerssens.

Stefano opened up the singles flight in the round of 32, falling to Lucas De Torres Curth of Kennesaw, Ga. Di Aloy would head to the consolations draw where he would win four straight matches to claim the title. Di Aloy faced off against teammate Martijn Kerssens in the consolation final, defeating Kerssens 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles play Di Aloy and Kerssens won their round of 16 match and fell in the quarterfinals to UNF. Santiago Suarez and Pascal Wagemaker also teamed up in doubles play this weekend. The two won their round of 32 match against Alabama State 6-3, but fell to UNF in the round of 16, 7-5.

The Eagles will now rest for the next two weeks and prepare for the ITA Southeast Regional, hosted by Georgia. The tournament will span from October 17 until October 22, in Athens, Georgia.

WHAT HEAD COACH SANDER KONING SAID
"Martijn and Toto lost a tight quarterfinal doubles match and played well, but UNF kept their cool just a bit more. Pascal and Santi played well in doubles too, but came up a bit short against UNF as well. Overall we could have done better in the first day, but I am happy with the way our guys responded the rest of the tournament. They showed composure and were physically strong. We now have two weeks before regionals start and we know what we have to work on to get ourselves ready for the next challenge."
