STATESBORO – Veronica Marin posted 17 kills and six blocks to lead Little Rock to a 3-1 Sun Belt volleyball victory over Georgia Southern Friday evening in Hanner Fieldhouse.
Eagles of the Match
Camila Gómez collected 12 kills and nine digs while hitting .222 for the Eagles (8-18, 2-9), and Skylar Ball posted 12 kills and three blocks.
Key Moments
Leading 1-0 in the match, GS rallied from a 19-15 deficit in the second set and made the score 23-21 on a Gómez kill. Little Rock (15-8, 7-3) scored the next point on a kill by Carol Barbosa. GS scored two straight with the second point coming on an ace by Brooke Birch, but Barbosa put down another ball to give the Trojans the 25-23 win.
Stat of the Match
Little Rock hit .313 as a team and outblocked the Eagles 13-5.
Quotables from coach Dustin Wood
"There were some sparks tonight, and I'm happy with the way we played in going back to a 5-1. I'm proud of how we competed tonight, and that was the biggest thing. They came to play and Julia (Landavazo) provided a spark, Lauren (Reichard) played well tonight and Cammy (Gómez) had a really good night on the pin and passing and playing defense."
"They started committing to Lauren in the third set, and it took us a little too long to adjust to that adjustment, but that wasn't the reason for the big run they had. It was a lack of execution during that run. We adjusted back and got ourselves back in the set and created some momentum going into the fourth. That's a good team, top-3 in the Sun Belt, and we just have to find a way."
