Georgia Southern Basketball Joins Sun Belt, American Cancer Society in Fight Against Cancer

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern basketball programs have teamed with the Sun Belt Conference and the American Cancer Society to create a conference-wide partnership --Sun Belt Fights Cancer (SunBeltFightsCancer.org) -- through the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative.
For the 2017-18 basketball season, Georgia Southern, the Sun Belt and its member schools are set to participate in Coaches vs. Cancer's Suits & Sneakers Week and 3-Point Challenge. In addition, the Eagles will host their annual Pack the House in Pink Game, Saturday, Feb. 10, in the doubleheader against Louisiana.
Suits and Sneakers - Jan. 25 vs. Texas State
Both the men's and women's basketball team's respective Suits and Sneakers Games are set for this Thursday's contest against Texas State at 7:30 p.m. The men's coaching staff will ditch their dress shoes for sneakers and wear exclusive Coaches vs. Cancer ties, designed by Vineyard Vines, while the women's staff will all don sneakers.
Pack the House in Pink - Feb. 10 vs. Louisiana
Georgia Southern will hold the 12th annual Pack the House in Pink Game Saturday, Feb. 10, when the Eagles play host to Louisiana in a Sun Belt Conference basketball doubleheader. The women's game tips off at 2 p.m., and the men take the court at 5 p.m. The Eagles will have a check presentation at halftime to donate collected funds to the Statesboro Bulloch County Breast Cancer Foundation, while also honoring breast cancer survivors at the break and honoring those who have lost their battle with a pre-game moment of silence. Pack the House in Pink began in February of 2006 in honor of the late Kathy Brunson, who a member of the Statesboro Service League and a local Phi Mu alumnus who died of breast cancer in November of 2005.
3-Point Challenge
During the month of February, both Eagle teams will participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge. The conference and its member schools encourage fans, corporate partners and media to join the excitement by joining your favorite team to help raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
The winner of the Sun Belt Conference's challenge will be crowned the league's 3-Point Champion, and all participating schools are entered into the national contest for a chance to earn the national 3-Point College Champion honor. The GS men's team currently averages 8.2 made 3-pointers a game, while the women's team averages 5.8.
Fans now have the opportunity to pledge a dollar amount for every 3-pointer made by their favorite teams by clicking on the 3PointChallenge.org link on SunBeltFightsCancer.org. The funds raised will help the American Cancer Society continue its mission to improving and saving lives by doing the most to help people with cancer today and working tirelessly to find cures for the disease tomorrow.
