SERIES PREVIEW - Softball Hosts Coastal Carolina for Weekend Series

The Eagles and Chanticleers will face off in a doubleheader Saturday, single game Sunday
STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern softball team plays host to Coastal Carolina in a Sun Belt Conference series this weekend. GS (5-7 SBC) will play Coastal Carolina (5-4 SBC) in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m ET and then face off again on Sunday in a single game at 12 p.m. ET. The matchup will have live stats available through the website all weekend, as well as live video streaming on GS All Access. Coastal Carolina enters the weekend with an overall record of 27-10, and are currently 5-4 in conference play. Before hitting the road to Statesboro, the Chanticleers went 6-2 in their last home stand by sweeping Troy and splitting doubleheaders against Winthrop and ULM. After facing ULM again on Sunday, Coastal Carolina picked up an exciting come-from-behind win against the Warhawks. The Eagles and the Chanticleers have kept it close over the years, with Coastal Carolina owning a 10-9 all-time record against Georgia Southern.
Sophomore outfielder Taty Forbes leads the CCU offense batting .435 and earning 47 hits on the year. Forbes also owns the longest hitting streak on her team (22) and the most multiple-hit games (12). Her sacrifice fly against Troy allowed the game-winning run and secured the sweep for the team. Junior outfielder Kailey Mellen is batting .326 and has maintained a .974 fielding percentage. Mellen has three home runs on the year and leads the team with 24 RBIs. She went 5-7 in game 1 against Winthrop, driving in the run that would tie the game with a double.
Sophomore Taylor Rahach has been posting impressive numbers in the circle lately, maintaining a 1.88 ERA on 16 starts and 20 appearances. Rahach recently pitched a complete game against ULM to improve her record to 11-3. Throughout the game she allowed only four hits, one run, and struck out four. The sophomores are carrying the pitching staff, with Ashley Guillette (10-4) earning a 1.72 ERA on 14 starts and 22 appearances. Guillette recently earned a complete-game victory in game 2 of the Troy doubleheader as she allowed only four hits, two runs (zero earned) and four walks with seven strikeouts.
The Eagles are coming off of a series sweep to No. 17 Louisiana last weekend. GS sits at 15-19 overall, 5-7 in conference play after dropping their last four games to all ranked opponents. Senior Emily Snider is leading the offense with a .377 batting average, 22 RBIs and seven home runs. Lydia Witkowski is second on the team with a .294 average, and right behind her is freshman Mekhia Freeman with a .287 average. Dixie Raley is 9-13 in the circle throughout 111.2 innings of work with a 3.32 ERA, and Kierra Camp is 5-6 with a 4.89 ERA in 81.2 innings.
