Eagles return home for one last match before heading to New Orleans for Sun Belt Tournament
STATESBORO, Ga. – For the final time during the 2017 season, the women's tennis team will compete in the friendly confines of the Wallis Tennis Center. The Eagles will host College of Charleston on Wednesday afternoon, which marks the final time the two seniors will compete on these courts as Eagles. Seniors Giulia Riepe and Mariana Ranzahuer will both be honored before the match.
"Charleston has always been a tough team to beat in the past," Head coach Michele Stanford said. "We know that this year will be no different. This will be our last match on our home courts for the 2017 season, and it will be very special for us to get this win for our two seniors."
College of Charleston has been a familiar opponent to the Eagles over the years. The Cougars enter play with a 15-8 record, and are looking to continue their streak against the Eagles. The Cougars have defeated the Eagles 16 of the last 17 years, with the exception of the 2013-2014, where the Blue and White never faced the Cougars. The last time the Eagles defeated Charleston was in 2000 when they came out on top with a 5-4 victory at home.
LAST TIME OUT
Last time out the Eagles traveled to Mobile, Alabama to face off against Troy and Appalachian State in the Sun Belt Pod Weekend. The Eagles would be swept on the weekend, falling to 10-10 on the season and 0-4 in Sun Belt play. Emilia Bujan was dominant winning three of her four matches, with one being unfinished. The team of Emilia Bujan and Ella Monsey went undefeated in doubles play defeating both Troy and Appalachian State 6-2 during their match.
