QUOTABLES
Head Coach Rodney Hennon
"We played a pretty solid baseball game tonight. We got some good pitching, played some good defense and were able to get out there and take the lead early. I thought hitters had a good approach all night and we didn't give away any at bats. I'm glad to see the guys come in out of the bullpen after Seth Shuman gave us another solid effort. The guys after him were able to come in and put up zeros, so it was a pretty good night."
CRUICIAL MOMENTS
Bot 1st - CAMPBELL 0 - GS 3 - Georgia Southern got the night started in style with a three-spot in the first inning off five hits. Hits at the top of the order from Steven Curry and Mitchell Golden set the table for Ryan Cleveland to drive in a run with a ground out to second. Tyler Martin did damage with his double with two outs, while Jordan Wren's RBI single punched a third run in for the good guys.
Bot 2nd - CAMPBELL 0 - GS 4 - Steven Curry picked up an RBI with a scorcher to center which found the green and sent C.J. Ballard around to score.
Top 4th - CAMPBELL 1 - GS 4 - Campbell got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with a solo home run from Matthew Barefoot. It was the first run that Starting pitcher Seth Shuman has allowed in either of his two starts for the Eagles.
Bot 4th - CAMPBELL 1 - GS 5 - Logan Baldwin scored the Eagles fifth run of the day after tallying a leadoff double and reaching third on a wild pitch. C.J. Ballard drove him in one batter later with a soft single in front of the second baseman to make it 5-1.
Top 5th - CAMPBELL 2 - GS 5 - Christian Jones opened the visitor half of the fifth inning with a home run to cut the lead back to 5-2.
Bot 5th - CAMPBELL 2 - GS 6 - Mason McWhorter came around to score his run of the day when he came around to score after a single to the shortstop. Wren's single to right was his second hit and second RBI of the game to make it a 6-2 lead for the home side.
Bot 6th - CAMPBELL 2 - GS 8 - After the dreaded two out walk to Mitchell Golden, Ryan Cleveland did what he does best, lifting a two-run bomb to center. The ball hit off the batters eye in centerfield and marked Cleveland's third-straight game with a home run.
GAME NOTES
- Seth Shuman threw five innings of three hit ball to pick up his second win of the season. The righty tossed 71 pitches and fanned two while walking two to earn the win. The only blemish was the two home runs allowed in the fourth and fifth innings as the freshman reached the deep end of his outing.
- The Georgia Southern Bullpen did stellar work, not allowing a hit in the final four innings of Tuesday's contest. Georgia Southern's relief pitchers have now thrown 9.1 innings of no-hit relief, going back to the third inning of Sunday's finale at Memphis.
- All nine Georgia Southern starters picked up hits on Wednesday as the Eagles posted 14 hits. In their last two home contests, Georgia Southern has tallied 33 hits.
- Georgia Southern's five strikeouts matches a season low, tying the Georgia Tech contest of February 21st when the Eagles were retired five times on strikes.
