Georgia Southern caps the regular season with three matches this week. GS hosts Savannah State Monday in a make-up match that was postponed because of Hurricane Irma. The Eagles also take on Georgia State in a home-and-home Sun Belt series. Georgia State travels to Hanner Fieldhouse Wednesday on Senior Night, and the Eagles make the trek to Atlanta Saturday.
This will be the second contest between Savannah State and Georgia Southern this season. GS won the first contest 3-1 in Savannah Oct. 10. The Eagles own a 20-0 all-time record against Savannah State and are 13-0 vs. the Tigers in Hanner Fieldhouse.
One point (1/2 point each match) is on the line against Georgia State in the Southern vs. State Rivalry Series, which State leads 4.5-0.5. The Panthers are 17-11 against Georgia Southern, but the Eagles have won the last four. GS is 6-3 against Georgia State in Hanner and 3-3 on the road.
Georgia Southern is coming off a pair of 3-2 setbacks to Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina last weekend, while Georgia State fell 3-0 to Coastal Carolina and 3-1 to App.
The Eagles are tied for fourth in the East Division with Troy, but GS swept Troy this season. The top four teams from each division advance to the Sun Belt Tournament Nov. 16-19 in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Cathrine Murray has 981 kills and ranks 10th on the school's career chart. The senior also has 798 digs and 115 blocks.
Classmate Anna Wenger has 720 career kills, and Megan Chevalier has 774 kills and 178 blocks.
Lauren Reichard has 644 career kills and 340 blocks. The junior ranks fifth on the school's career block list.
