Georgia Southern opens a four-match homestand against Coastal Carolina Thursday, and the Eagles host Appalachian State Friday. Both contests are set for 6:30 p.m., and the match against the Mountaineers will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
It's the second meeting against both opponents this season. GS fell at Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State by identical 3-1 margins in the first week of October.
GS is 1-4 against Coastal Carolina and 5-15 against App in Hanner Fieldhouse.
Coastal Carolina leads the East Division, and Appalachian State is third. Georgia Southern is fourth. The top four teams from each division advance to the Sun Belt Tournament Nov. 16-19 in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Cathrine Murray has 965 kills and is 27 away from cracking the top-10 on the school's career chart. The senior also has 778 digs and 110 blocks.
Classmate Anna Wenger has 706 career kills, and Megan Chevalier has 756 kills and 174 blocks.
Lauren Reichard has 615 career kills and 330 blocks. The junior ranks seventh on the school's career block list.
Georgia Southern had four matches canceled or postponed because of Hurricane Irma. GS has already made up two of those matches and will make up a third when Savannah State visits Hanner Fieldhouse Nov. 6 for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
Following the weekend, GS closes out the regular season with three matches next week. In addition to Savannah State, the Eagles play host to Georgia State on Senior Day (Nov. 8) before traveling to Georgia State (Nov. 11).
