Men's Tennis begins preparation for UNC-Wilmington tournament
STATESBORO, Ga. – On Sunday morning the men's tennis team took to the courts for the finale of the Georgia Southern Invitational. JC Alcala faced off against Fermin Calvo Barcelo from Kennesaw State in the Main Draw championship match.
In the doubles main draw both teams in the finals match were Eagles. Eddie Landin and Diego Finkelstein would take on JC Alcala and Stefano Di Aloy. Landin and Finkelstein would defeat Alcala and Di Aloy 9-8 (4) in a back and forth match this afternoon.
The Eagles will conclude the fall season in UNC-Wilmington and then prepare for the 2017-18 season. The Eagles will open up the spring against Air Force and the University of Incarnate Word.
WHAT HEAD COACH SANDER KONING SAID
"JC played well today. He needed some time to figure out his opponent, but as soon as he did he was in the match. In the end it came down to 1 or 2 points and making the right decision at the right time. Good players don't give you a lot of opportunities and you have to take them when they do give them. In doubles Diego and Eddie played well. They played well throughout the tournament. They have been resilient in their mindset. They had plenty of adversity, being down a break more than once and just stayed the course and that is huge. Overall as a team I think we learned a lot and we know what we need to improve for the spring. The remainder of the fall will be about that."
SINGLES RESULTS
Barcelo (KSU) def. Alcala 6-2, 1-6, 6-4
DOUBLES RESULTS
Landin/Finkelstein def. Alcala/Di Aloy 9-8 (4)
