
Track and Field Heads to Alabama for Sun Belt Outdoor Championships

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern track and field team will compete in the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala. The three-day meet takes place at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

Date – Friday-Sunday, May 8-10
Location – Gulfshores, Ala./Gulf Shores Sportsplex

Last Time Out
• Georgia Southern posted 9 top-10 finishes at the North Florida Twilight on April 11.
• Samantha Cook won the shot put with a throw of 12.20m.
• She also set a new personal best in the discus throw with a toss of 35.15m.
• Kelsey Arnold finished fifth in the hammer throw (46.16m) and 11th in discus throw (30.32m).
• Rebecca Parker finished third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:19.62.

• Three Eagles finished in the top-10 in day one of the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships.
• Four more Eagles posted top-10 finishes on day two.
• Ashleigh Rasheed had finished fourth in the pentathlon long jump (5.26m) and fifth in the triple jump (12.10m) on day two of the meet.
• Kelsey Arnold posted her third throw of over 17m in the weight throw on day one and finished 9th with a distance of 17.33m.
• Georgia Southern finished 11th in the conference meet.
Arnold Sets Weight Throw Record
• Sophomore Kelsey Arnold topped her own school record in the Weight Throw by nearly a meter and finished first in the event in the Indoor season opener at the Birmingham Southern Icebreaker in December.
• Arnold's third throw of 17.90m broke the previous school record of 16.97m set back in 2014 at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships.
Seniors Ready for Final Season
• The 2014-15 Track and Field season will be the final one for four seniors.
• Stephanne Henzler, Kimberly Thomas, Lauren Toomer and Jasmin Walker will all look to make the 2014-15 campaign a memorable one.
